Fall 2022 Appeal
Pictured above: A pre-COVID International Dinner in 2019
Dear Friend,
Food means more than survival. By sharing food, we make friends, make peace, and count our blessings. When we say “let’s break bread together” we capture the power of a communal meal to forge relationships and cross boundaries. In good times and bad, the urge to gather at the table and give thanks endures.
Welcoming the Stranger knows this well. Our annual international dinners have brought together hundreds of students, teachers, staff, and supporters. They’ve allowed us to affirm our shared humanity over a feast of culturally diverse dishes. The cooks are proud student volunteers – adult immigrants and refugees who attend our free classes in ESL, computer, and citizenship.
In 2020, the pandemic forced us to forgo the joy of this dinner and, to be frank, the income it provided.
If circumstances allow, we will revive this joyous tradition next year and hope to see you at the table. Until then, the donation you make today in this season of thanksgiving will keep our free in-person classrooms open and our free virtual classrooms online to serve more than150 immigrant and refugee students every term (2021–2022 average).
With heartful thanks,
Patricia Lorenz William Kennedy
