  • Google Calendar ICS

Our Annual International Dinner, which is normally held in October, is cancelled this year due to COVID-19 concerns.

To help fill this gap in our fundraising we are conducting a Special Fall Fundraiser Appeal. This year, because of COVID-19, we are respectfully asking you to support an Imaginary International Dinner through your donations as if the real Dinner actually was being held.

A night of International Food and Entertainment!

You are Invited!

Welcoming the Stranger’s
Nineteenth Annual International Dinner

Saturday, October 12, 2019 6:00 p.m. (doors open at 5:30pm, program to begin at 6pm)

Seton Hall, 1200 Park Avenue, Bensalem, PA 19020

A Night of International Food and Entertainment!

Guest of Honor: First Baptist Church of Langhorne
Entertainment: Avi Wisnia of On Demand Programs and Events

The International Dinner is a wonderful and flavorful experience of amazing dishes from around the world. The authentic flavors of these international cuisines are made for you by Welcoming the Stranger students. Join us for entertainment, an auction and raffle, activities, and fellowship with your immigrant and America-born neighbors alike. We look forward to seeing you there!

What is the International Dinner?

The International Dinner is a large potluck dinner of unique dishes from around the world. Welcoming the Stranger students provide their best recipes to share with everyone. Join us for entertainment, an auction and raffle, activities, and a chance to mingle with everyone. We look forward to seeing you there!

At this year’s event, we are pleased to honor First Baptist Church of Langhorne. First Baptist Church has been a longtime, dedicated partner of Welcoming the Stranger’s mission to provide free educational opportunities to immigrants and refugees for the past twenty years. Please join us in congratulating First Baptist Church of Langhorne for their deserved recognition.

What should I bring to the dinner?

Please bring your family and friends to share in a wonderful evening together. Bring an openness and willingness to trying new foods - you will get a sampling plate of food from all over the globe. Dishes will be labeled at a buffet line and you can choose what you would like to add to your plate as you move down the line. There are usually plenty of options for most types of diets. You are welcome to bring a dish to share with everyone as well (though not required) - if you are going to share a dish, please let us know so we can include it in our planning process. Bring your checkbook and some cash so you can participate in our silent auction and raffle. We have extensive prizes so that many people go home winners!

What is Welcoming the Stranger?

Welcoming the Stranger provides free education and resources for adult immigrants and refugees to the United States. We teach English, computer skills, and U.S. citizenship preparation to immigrants and refugees. Since 1999, we have educated over 4,000 students from 104 different countries.

How can I support the International Dinner?

1) Please attend and bring your family and friends! Children are welcome. You can purchase tickets online here, or you can send a check for $30 per person to Welcoming the Stranger, International Dinner, PO Box 1156, Langhorne, PA 19047. If you mail in your payment, please note that the check is for International Dinner tickets, give us your contact info (name, address, email, phone) and include a list of all names of attendees (so if you purchase 3 tickets, include 3 names!). You will not need a physical ticket to get in the door - just tell us your name (like a restaurant reservation). Please note that our event sold out several weeks before the event last year, so if you would like to come, don't wait to buy them!

2) Bring food! Do you have an ethnic or American dish you'd love to share with us? We always need more food!

3) Can’t attend the dinner but you would still like to help? Please send funds to Welcoming the Stranger, PO Box 1156, Langhorne, PA 19047 to help us keep our classes operating!

Questions?

Contact Meg at meg@welcomingthestranger.org or (215) 702-3445. More information can also be found on our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/welcomingthestrangernonprofit/.
